“I wouldn’t want to comment further on this issue because it is already in court. But as far as the commission is concerned, the issue of Zamfara is over and nothing can be done about it,” he said.

We Will Back APGA Against Yaris Candidate In Zamfara - Sen Marafa

One of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Zamfara State, senator Kabiru Marafa, yesterday indicated that he may back the governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state governorship election next year.

He said since the APC, as a family, could not agree during the primary elections held in the state, even till the expiration of the INEC deadline, there is nothing wrong if his camp decides to support another brother in another political party.

Briefing journalists yesterday in the National Assembly, Senator Marafa, who represents Zamfara Cereal in the Senate, failed to controvert an online reports that his camp has concluded plans to work with APGA in the state elections next year, even when his attention was drawn to it.

He rather supported the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the party did not hold primary elections in the state.

The governorship aspirant also said that there was no any consensus arrangement reached among the party’s aspirants in the state, adding that though some aspirants stepped down, there was no consensus agreement between the remaining aspirants.

“I read the letter from INEC where they quoted sections of the law that influenced their position. I also read the response made by the APC National Chairman. I want to believe the chairman was been misled by the APC electoral committee that went to Zamfara.

“But, as a stakeholder who was present and witnessed the whole process that happened, there was no election in Zamfara on the Saturday October 7, 2018. Also, there was no consensus from anybody or by anybody. So, the election committee reported in the contrary. I think that was absolutely wrong. I always stand by the side of the truth. I want to say the truth, even if it is against me,” Marafa said.

He added that he is still a member of the APC, but that if the party, does anything wrong, he would not hesitate to point it out.

“I’m an APC member to the core, and I’m still with the APC, notwithstanding that the chances are becoming bleak, may be for me as a politician. But I believe in the party. If the party does anything wrong, I should have the courage to say this thing is wrong.

“If the party has any way within the law to fill in any candidate, I will be happy, but not when the issues are based on a wrong foundation. So, let us address the issues the way they are. We are going into election and the desire of every party is to win and win without any litigation, divert attention and waste resources. I would not want to see one happening to me.

“So, by and large, the only thing I saw wrong in the letter is the assertion that there was a consensus. There was no consensus. We are gubernatorial aspirants but some people stepped down.

“For the remaining five aspirants, there was no consensus till the end of the exercise. The truth of the matter is that the APC electoral committee tried to achieve a consensus among the aspirants for the governorship and senatorial aspirants, but the two factions of the party could not agree.

“If you force any consensus or you claim there was one, there is going to be a revolt that there was no consensus, and anybody and some have the right to go to court. But if under the law, the APC has the right to field candidates, they can go ahead to do it without recourse to either election or consensus. Let us get one thing clear and correct.

That there was no election, no consensus”, he said.

I Will Restructure Nigeria If Elected President Under APGA - John Gbor

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), retired Major General John Wilson Terwase Gbor, on Sunday in Abuja pledged that his administration would protect every Nigerian no matter where the person lives.

In his acceptance speech after he was endorsed by his party, General Gbor unveiled a five-point agenda which, he said, would promote national security, peace and prosperity of all Nigerians no matter where they lived in the world.

The five-point agenda, which he described as his “irrevocable covenant with Nigerians,” are: true federalism based on fiscal restructuring, security, economic reconstruction driven by private enterprise, social agenda and a presidential initiative that places empowerment of women and the youth as the key driver of national renaissance.

General Gbor told the APGA delegates to the special convention where he was unveiled with his running mate, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, that Nigeria was badly broken, yearning to be repaired.

But he said that it is only a pragmatic and progressive leader, not just a President, that could rescue the country from the deplorable situation.

“We need a President who believes that all lives matter and works proactively to protect lives and properties of all Nigerians,” he said to the applause of the audience.

Offering himself as the new face of hope in the midst of despair, Gbor said under his leadership, the Federal Government would take steps to revitalize the non-oil sector, reduce the national debt, promote agriculture and above all work “for the prosperity of all Nigerians where “no one and no place is left behind”.

Expatiating on his economic recovery plan, Gbor said: “In line with APGA’s commitment to restructuring, my administration will vigorously pursue the entrenchment of true federalism which promotes productivity and competitiveness among the federating units.

“Thus, instead of the present misguided emphasis on cake sharing, which accounts for high level of corruption, the APGA-led Federal Government, under my leadership, will promote the emergence of viable, competitive and sustainable economic entities that will unleash the creative potentials of Nigerians. The end result of such competitive entities will be wealth creation, job opportunities, social harmony and national security.”

Dismissing the fear of those who argue that restructuring could lead to disintegration, Gbor said: “The truth is that fiscal federalism and national unity are not mutually exclusive. What a restructured Nigeria will achieve is that, we shall move away from the cake sharing formula which breeds laziness and rent seekers to cake baking which unleashes the creative energies of Nigerians especially the youth.”

The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, who unveiled the presidential candidate and his running mate, assured Nigerians that the party was poised to produce governors in at least eight states of the federation.

Oye hinged his hope on the party’s belief that the All Progressive Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party were in disarray in those states.

Besides, he stated that APGA was robbed of victory in Nasarawa and Abia States in 2015 and that the party would reclaim the mandates in 2019.

Appeal Court upholds Victor Umeh’s election

The Court of Appeal, Enugu upheld the election of Victor Umeh of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as representative of Anambra Central senatorial district in the National Assembly.

In a unanimous judgment, the appellate court dismissed Nkem Ekweozor’s appeal challenging the ruling of the Anambra Central Senatorial Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld Umeh’s victory in the January 13, 2018 rerun.

Ekweozor, who was the Mega Peoples Progressives Party (MPPP)’s candidate in the rerun, had claimed that Umeh was not duly elected by majority votes cast during the election, adding that the exercise was marred by irregularities.

He also alleged that Umeh was not qualified to contest the election, as he got his nomination when he was still the National Chairman of APGA.

The appellant who joined Umeh, APGA and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the first, second and third respondents respectively, prayed the court to order INEC to conduct a fresh election and that Umeh should be disqualified from that election.

I will end Yarima political dynasty in Zamfara - Dr Sani Shinkafi

The Secretary All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Board of trustees & Zamfara state Governorship Aspirant Alhaji (Dr) Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi (Wanban Shinkafi) , has said that the political career of Sen Ahmad Sani Yarima, is over in Zamfara state.

Wanban Shinkafi said this while reacting to the painful mass killings & kidnapping of innocent people in some part of the state by armed bandits.

Specifically, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi said Yarima should start preparing to quit politics as his political influence has grossly diminished in Zamfara state as God's willing he will end his political family dynasty and Act of Godfatherlism.

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi made it clear that people of Zamfara had become fed up with Yarima and AA Yari style of politics which he alleged involved imposition of candidates that are not worth it and are agents of evil of Yarima & AA Yari.

He said, “You know I predicted a week ago in Pride Fm Zamfara (103.5) that Yarima & AA Yari is just a congregation of strange bedfellows. The most beautiful thing about what has happened is that  Yarima political influence in Zamafa is coming to a sunset and it is about five minutes to midnight for him.

“If Yarima & AA Yari cannot see this now, then it will be foolish of them. They thinks Zamfara belongs to them alone. So, they thought what they did in 2015 was what they could replicate at the 2019 election."

But I believe and will show them that they cannot continue to be the lord of the manor in Zamfara.

“I Will end Yarima Political family  dynasty and  end  godfatherism in Zamfara State by the grace of God come 2019."

Selling Your Vote Is Selling Your Birthright In Zamfara - Dr Sani Shinkafi

Monday,24-September 2018

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi (Wanban Shinkafi) Condemns Buying & Selling Of Votes In Fourth Coming 2019 Election

Ahead of 2019 governorship election in Zamfara State, Governorship Aspirant (Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi) called on the electorate to refrain from selling their votes. He made the statements today in a media message via his official WhatsApp account.

According to him, Zamfara people need to rise above immediate financial gains and vote according to their conscience in order to secure their future. He added saying vote-buying and vote selling obstruct democratic processes and must be resisted in Zamfara state. He argued that accepting money to vote would amount to selling the birthright of an individual and the destiny of a nation.

He said  “As part of my genuine concern for my people's democracy, I am here to urge people to shun vote-selling which is gradually eating deep into the political system of the country.

“Vote-selling is like selling your birthright as an individual and then our collective future as a nation which is wrong morally and otherwise. “A lot of our politicians have nothing to offer the people other than money, and that is why i am preaching that people should not sell their future for N5,000. “The consequence of vote buying and selling is like a Tsunami, hurricane and other natural disasters that will eventually destroy all of us, whether rich or poor, if not stopped, “

he said.

Elections should not be seen as a business transaction between sellers and buyers.

He warned that cases of vote buying and selling should not happen in Zamfara especially as the 2019 general elections draw closer. Saying
“Nigerians need to understand that a politician who gives them money for their votes today will impoverish them for the next four years because he would want to recoup his money. So “We need to work on people to desist from selling their votes because it is their conscience and future they are trading for peanuts."

CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE OVER KILLINGS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE MUST STOP IN ZAMFARA STATE OR DECLARE STATE OF EMERGENCY GOV A.A HAS FAILED WOEFULLY.

Conspiracy of silence over the killngs of innocent people, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling by armed bandits is being on,it has been there and it is still there .

The Governor A.A YARI continued to pretend to the Mr President , Vice President and members of the general public all is well in Zamfara State.
But still the armed bandits continued the blood lettings and kidnapping is persistently high day by day Innocent people some were slaughtered, some were set ablaze with fire, some were shots with sophisticated guns, villages, towns, communities burnt and properties destroyed worth millions of naira.

Men were killed, women were killed including children.

Statistics shows that more 5,000 innocent people were killed by the armed bandits over 140,000 are internally displaced persons (IDP) from their ancestoral homes ,over 26,000 villages, towns, communities destroyed by this misguided elements.

Yet no any concerted efforts made by Wakawaka Governor made in putting an end to this ugly menace.

His greatest concern he is just struggling to hand pick a successor who will save him from going to jail after expiration of his tenure in couple's of the months.

The killing now took New dimensions in my own Local government in one week the armed bandits attacked, Jangeru,Badarawa, Shanawa,Maberaya,Kafin Mazuga,Kursasa people were brutally killed carted away with livestocks, destroyed the villages, kidnapped innocent people keep them in captivity demanding ransom from their freedom.

In Zurmi Local government Gurbin bore Two customs officers were kidnapped on duty post along Jibia-Katsina road.

Early this morning on Sunday in Nahuce Bungudu LGA six people were kidnapped and killed.

In Gusami Hayi Birnin Magaji LGA same attacks were launched to innocent people, livestocks were carted away, people were equally kidnapped.

Zamfara State has been in the eye of the world over the killngs of innocent people, destruction of the properties worth millions of naira, displacement of our people from their ancestoral homes without any reliefs materials from the Federal and State government respectively.

There is seem to be series of killings of innocent people, blood spilling, kidnapping armed robbery and cattle rustling across the State but the Governor is busy preparing for Presidential primaries and Gubernatorial indirect election primaries leaving behind tales of sorrow and grief in almost all the fourteen Local government area of Zamfara State.

We now call Mr President Muhammad Buhari, The National Assembly to declare State of Emergency without any delay.

If it is not done in good time there will be no election in 2019 because it will not be conducive for any opposition party to go out for electioneering campaigns.

We have no confidence in his leadership anymore.

MR PRESIDENT
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH THIS IS THE TIME TO SAVE ZAMFARA STATE .

SAY NO TO GODFATHERISM IN 2019 ,
DONT SELL YOUR VOTE SAVE YOUR FUTURE.

APGA Gets Presidential Aspirant

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has unveiled Major General John W.T Gbor (rtd) as its presidential aspirant for the 2019 presidential polls.

The National Chairman of APGA, Dr. Victor Oye, broke the news on Tuesday in Abuja, while addressing newsmen after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

He also named an industrialist and oil magnate, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, as the running mate of the presidential aspirant for the 2019 elections.
Maj. Gen. Gbor who hails from Katsina-Ala Local Government of Benue State had his last assignment in the military as commandant in the Nigerian Army Education Corps. His running mate Chief Chukuweke hails from Imo state.

“We have good news for all Nigerians. APGA has now got a presidential and vice presidential aspirants; it is no longer speculation. It is now a reality. Our presidential candidate will be formally unveiled as soon as our national convention is held. But they will be talking to the media from time to time.

“Our presidential aspirant is a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army with a PhD from one of the Ivy colleges in the United States of America. Our Vice Presidential candidate is a technocrat, international businessman with many degrees in economic and business management,” Oye said.

He said that the NWC of the party are working hard to reposition the party’s affairs in order to improve the fortunes of the party.

NDA ENDORSES VICTOR UMEH FOR SENATE

Nigerians for Democratic Action (NDA) after its annual Congress on Tuesday, 18th September, 2018, in Abuja, endorsed the candidature of Chief Dr. Victor Umeh for Senate in the 2019 general elections.

Distinguished Senator Victor Umeh is an embodiment of patriotism, a detribalized compatriot with abundant milk of human kindness which he generously dispensed particularly to the less privileged he gives annual scholarship etc.

His impressive performance in the Senate since January 2018 he assumed legislative duties after a tortuous post-election litigation, shows that he is indeed, a man of the people.

Nigerians for Democratic Action overwhelmingly adopt him as the candidate to represent Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Red chamber. Accordingly, all members of our esteemed Group and lovers of representative governance in Nigeria should work for his reelection to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A man of courage and vision, Senator Umeh has sponsored and co-sponsored laudable people-oriented motions including “The Urgent Need to include the Eastern Rail lines in the Nigerian Railway Development Project”, “Illegal Confinement of Underage Offenders and Infants in the same Prison with Adult Prisoners”, Co-sponsor with Senator Stella Odua (Anambra North, APGA) the “Federal University of Education Aguleri, Anambra State (EST, etc) Bill 2018 (SB, 653)”, etc.

NDA is impressed by Umeh’s performance in the Senate so far, and believe he will do more if he is reelected to the Upper Chamber. He has provided the desired synergy needed by the Anambra State Government controlled by APGA to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of the State.

NDA enjoins the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone to vote for continuity and return Umeh to the Senate in 2019. He is competent and has in many ways enriched the nation’s democratic process.

NDA also calls on eligible Nigerians to obtain their voter cards and ensure they vote for candidates of their choice in all elections. All votes must be counted and count in the overall results as sovereignty resides in the people.

We welcome INEC’s decision to ban smart phones at polling booths across the country. This will eliminate the obnoxious vote buying and selling syndrome. The Commission’s decision to use the EFCC and security agencies to arrest and prosecute those involved in vote buying and other incentives on election days is a welcome development that will advance our frail democracy. Let’s get it right this time. It’s a new dawn in our electoral process.

APGA alleges sale of PVCs in Nasarawa State

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State has raised the alarm over the alleged buying of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) from women in the state.

APGA national secretary, Labaran Maku, raised the alarm yesterday while addressing a Catholic women conference in Agharagu.

His words: “There are some persons who are going about the state demanding PVC from women in return for N10,000 loan.

“According to intelligent reports, this group is representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in the state. They demand PVC, which they clone.

“Why are they demanding the PVC and not national identity card or other forms of identity before issuing the loan to the women?”

The former minister of information called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the allegation and plug any loophole that could compromise the 2019 general elections in the state.

Maku, however, cautioned women and other voters to report anybody who demands the PVC in exchange of any benefit.

Meanwhile, founder of the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL), Prof. Pat Utomi, has urged Nigerians to participate effectively in the 2019 general elections to restore the country’s glory.

Utomi said although Nigeria is listed among failing states in the world because of bad leadership, “Nigerians can collectively decide to reverse the trend” by electing leaders who are capable of realising the vision of the country’s founding fathers

Tinubu vs Ambode: Your Victory Is Assured In APGA - Victor Umeh

The Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator (Dr) Victor Umeh, has called on the embattled governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, to join the party, saying his victory is assured.

Ambode has been reportedly having a running battle with Aswiaju Bola Tinubu, who is the leader of his party, All Progressives Congress, APC.

Report had it that over 50 council chairmen loyal to Tinubu, Ambode’s estranged godfather, had reportedly met and pledged their support for Jide Sanyaolu Sanwonolu, who is believed to be Tinubu’s preferred choice.

But Senator Umeh, who represents Anambra Central senatorial zone during an interview with journalists on Thursday evening, said APGA was open for Ambode to join.

He said, “That is what our party should be doing. When we see people who have the capacity to win election, we approach them and offer our platform.

“I want to assure Ambode that if he joins APGA, his victory is surer. We have support in Lagos that can help him win election.

“We are calling on Ambode to consider APGA now and let APGA work for him.”

Umeh insisted that APGA was very much on ground in Lagos State, and could sway enough votes to win his reelection in 2019.

2019 & APGA New Plan Game - Board Of Trustee's

To Field Presidential Candidate From North

Rising from an emergency meeting of its Board of Trustees (BOT) recently, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) pulled what came as a surprise to many, when it announced its resolve to field a presidential candidate of northern extraction in the February 2019 election.

Observers had expressed surprise over the decision, apparently because of the previous position adopted by party leaders that APGA was not willing to contest the presidency in the coming elections.

National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye and Governor Willie Obiano had been vocal on the issue. They hinged their reason on elections held in the state, which ended in the party’s favour without interference from the Presidency.

The elections were those of the November 2017 governorship that produced Obiano and the National Assembly re-run election that produced Chief Victor Umeh as Senator for Anambra Central. Umeh’s election delighted the party because it was the first time APGA was producing a senator.

In its 16 years of existence, APGA has never presented a candidate outside the Southeast region for the Presidency. This was due to the erroneous belief that APGA was an Igbo party and as such, is the platform for ascendancy of Igbo person to the highest political office in the land.

In fact, the Igbo appeal in the formation of APGA is summarised in the party’s Cock head logo and slogan of “Onye Aghala Nwannee ya;” meaning be your brother’s keeper.

And to lend credence to that fact, after its registration in 2002, the party moved to contest the presidential election in the 2003 elections. The first thing it did was to freely offer the platform to former Biafra warlord, late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu to contest the presidency. Ojukwu, many knew, never prepared for the election and was not angling for a seat at the Presidency.

The party’s founding National Chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie explained it as part of strategies to gain acceptability for the party in the country. He said the former warlord required no introduction and would be easier to market.

Okorie said it was an honour and a way of rewarding and appreciating the former warlord for his sacrifices for Ndigbo and support towards registration of the party.

At that gathering that held in Enugu, where he unveiled Ojukwu, Okorie also added: “Since the election has become a contest of the Generals, with our brothers from the two other zones in the country presenting their generals, we also need to present our own general. So, it is a contest that must be fought and we will not be seen as playing second fiddle.”

Okorie was referring to retired generals Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, who contested the election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). So, Obasanjo was coming from West, Buhari was coming from North and Ojukwu from East. He also explained that lack of time contributed to it.

The scenario that played out was such that the former warlord never contested the ticket with anybody. There was also no opportunity either for any other politician outside Igboland to vie for the ticket, just as there was no primary organised, where the Ikemba emerged. This development haunted the party and followed it to the election.

When the elections came and results were counted, APGA finished third behind Obasanjo and Buhari. Ojukwu secured a little above one million votes from the over 39 million valid votes cast in the election. Obasanjo, who emerged winner, secured over 24 million votes and Buhari, over 12 million votes.

Four years later, the party re-entered the scenario. This time, crisis over the outcome of governorship election in Anambra, as well as leadership of the party had crept in. Ojukwu was again drafted as the party’s flag bearer in the presidential election. The outing was poorer than before. APGA finished sixth, securing less than 160,000 votes. No thanks to the leadership crisis that had eaten deep into the party’s fabrics and Ojukwu’s indisposition to personally take his campaigns around the country, as well as his near imposition on the party.

Since the abysmal attempts and the crisis that developed, the APGA relapsed. Its worry became how to manage the victory in Anambra State and overcome the national leadership crisis.

In the 2011 and 2015 elections, the party openly announced endorsement of PDP presidential candidates.

Thus, after the emergency BOT meeting in which its National Secretary, Labaran Maku made the announcement that the party was now ready to play in national politics by fielding a presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, pundits were taken aback as to what prompted the somersault and fresh reawakening in the party.

A school of thought said the decision to contest might have been fuelled by realisation that the inability to present presidential candidates in past elections has not helped the party’s fortunes. Rather, the political parties it promoted and supported their candidates have conspired to undermine APGA.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye told The media that APGA was merely bidding its time to enable it reposition and play in the national politics. He said there was never a time the party ruled itself out of the 2019 presidential election, and that the opinions expressed earlier were personal ones.

He said: “The party never came up with an official statement on its unwillingness to present a candidate. There are differences between personal opinions expressed by someone and official statement from the party.

“We fielded Ojukwu on two occasions and after his death, a lacuna was created. We took time to mourn him and also considered the credibility of persons who could go for elections on the party’s platform. We must sustain the national drive which the party was set up for.”

On the decision to locate the Presidency in the north, he said: “We were more concerned and sensitive to the fact that there is power rotation between the north and south, and this is what the constitutional conference approved. Former President Goodluck Jonathan held that power for four years after completing the tenure left by his boss, Yar’Adua, who was from the north.

“So, if the south interrupted the north, when Jonathan took over, it means that naturally, you should allow the north to complete that tenure. They have taken over and we will allow that to continue.”

Another party chieftain, Joe Uzochukwu said: “APGA has been discovered to be a beautiful bride and pride of the Igbo nation. This is the right time to put square peg in square hole and round peg in a round hole. It is a perfect decision taken at the party’s Board of Trustees meeting, that this time around, we shall have a presidential candidate.”

He maintained that APGA had leadership challenges that affected some of its programmes, stressing however, that the problems had been surmounted.

“We have a good and strong leadership under the person of Chief Willie Obiano,” he explained. “He has shown what it takes to be a good leader, as chairman of Board of Trustees of the party. APGA’s inability to field a Presidential candidate, all this while, has been a problem to us. It has been a predicament not arriving or getting to where we are supposed to be.

“You must know that it is only when you have a presidential candidate that you can negotiate with other presidential candidates for what is called an accord. So, all along, we cannot say we have benefitted from the Federal Government, because it believed we are ‘woman wrapper,’ that we are always in the other room. But this time around, we are in the same room. We are fielding a presidential candidate. That’s the beauty of the decision taken by APGA now.”

It was gathered that two persons have indicated interests to use the party’s platform for the presidential election. One of the aspirants, a retired Major General of the Army is said to hail from Benue State, while the other is said to hail from Kaduna State.

But Ifeatu Obi-Okoye said: “We are hoping to get someone of quality, who will represent the party’s ideals and know that APGA has a different ideology. The entire thing is open to all. We want the best persons to contest in that election. APGA was never billed for endorsement of candidates from other political parties or contented with regional politics. We are eager to have a national spread and we believe that time has come.”

APGA And The Southeast
There are indications that the party, even with Igbo appeal, has not done well in the southeast since it came on board. Although it has contested in every election in the zone, this has not translated into victory, as it had always ended in the list of “those who also participated.”

Its only outstanding showing had been in the 2003 elections in which it won in Anambra State, and where it has continued to dominate and a few other states in the zone. It also won in Imo State in the 2007 elections. That victory was short-lived, as two years after, Governor Rochas Okorocha ran away with the mandate to the All Progressives Congress (APC). All efforts to recover that mandate and perhaps, spread to other states had been futile.

But towards the 2019 general elections, the party said it has repositioned to contest in every election and defend the outcome,
assuring that its electoral victories would no longer be denied it.

Obi-Okoye said: “A lot has been done to reposition the party and enable it win elections in the Southeast. In Imo as at Wednesday, we have 16 governorship aspirants. We have paid the huge nomination fees. We have a coalition of persons led by Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, who have joined the party.

“We had earlier received a coalition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Chief Bright Nwalue. They joined us.
Today, we have at least five persons from each of the zones of the state contesting election. With this development, one cannot say APGA is not doing well in Imo.

“In Abia state, there is a strong desire by two camps to take over power. Our governorship candidate in the last election, Alex Oti held a rally in Aba, which no other party has been able to match, in terms of attendance and all that can go with it. Udensi held a similar rally at Aba and both events were hugely attended. The turnout indicated that APGA is acceptable in the state.

“We have weak links in Enugu and Ebonyi States, but in trying to solve them, we have dissolved the executive in Enugu State and we will soon reconstitute it. We have issued a stern warning to Ebonyi that they either sit up or be dissolved. We are no longer for games.

“Every seat in Anambra is being hotly contested. There is no free ticket in APGA. Even Senator Victor Umeh, our former National Chairman is recontesting his seat. He did not get a waiver. APGA has not drafted anyone into the race. You must be thrown up by the people and with that, we are sure we will win the election and sustain the tempo of progress.

“If you have been following history, you will know that our challenge mainly is not membership or acceptability. Our setbacks are mainly created by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which will always throw up something to deny us victory.

“In 2015, everybody knew we won the election in Abia State. They came up with two local governments, where the figures did not agree to create confusion and deny us that victory. In 2007, we also won the election in Imo State with Rochas Okorocha. But a few years after, he decided to run away with our mandate to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“In Nasarawa State, our governorship candidate, Labaran Maku was robbed of victory. It took four days for the main election results to be announced, because they were trying to perfect the rigging. APGA’s problem has been more of electoral challenge created by INEC. But we are going to defend our electoral victories with the last drop of our blood. We will ensure that votes count from this day forward. That is our resolve. No longer will anybody upturn what rightly belongs to the party.”
